Car
If you are driving from Teso, start your journey by heading west on the A1 highway. Depending on your starting point in Teso, you may need to navigate through towns such as Soroti or Mbale. Continue on the A1 until you reach Fort Portal. Upon reaching Fort Portal, follow the signs directing you to Kibale National Park, which is approximately 30 kilometers from the town center. The roads are generally well-marked, and you will pass through beautiful landscapes. Make sure to fuel up in Fort Portal as there are limited services closer to the park.
Public Transportation
To reach Kibale National Park using public transportation, you can take a bus or a shared taxi from Teso to Fort Portal. Buses frequently depart from major towns like Soroti and Mbale. Upon arriving in Fort Portal, you can hire a taxi or a motorbike taxi (boda boda) to take you to the park entrance. The distance from Fort Portal to Kibale National Park is about 30 kilometers, and the taxi fare should be negotiated upfront. Expect to pay around 20,000 to 30,000 UGX. Ensure to check the bus schedules in advance as they may vary.
Motorbike Taxi (Boda Boda)
If you are in Fort Portal and prefer a more adventurous route, you can hire a boda boda to take you to Kibale National Park. The ride takes approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic and road conditions. It is advisable to negotiate the fare beforehand, which should range from 20,000 to 30,000 UGX. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow safety protocols during your ride.
