Car
If you are driving from Teso to Sipi Falls, start on the A109 road heading northwest towards Mbale. Continue straight for about 73 kilometers until you reach Mbale town. From here, follow signs to Sipi Falls, which is approximately 17 kilometers northeast of Mbale. Take the Budadiri Road and follow it until you reach Chebonet village. Sipi Falls is located near Chebonet, and you will see signs directing you to the falls. Be aware of potential tolls on the roads and ensure your vehicle is in good condition for the journey.
Public Transportation
To reach Sipi Falls via public transportation, start by taking a taxi or bus from Teso to Mbale. These can be found at various bus stations in Teso, and the journey will take approximately 2-3 hours depending on your starting point. Once you arrive in Mbale, look for a local taxi or 'boda boda' (motorcycle taxi) that can take you to Sipi Falls. The ride from Mbale to Sipi Falls will take about 30-40 minutes. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand, which typically ranges from 20,000 to 30,000 UGX. Ask the driver to take you to the Chebonet area where Sipi Falls is located.
Boda Boda (Motorcycle Taxi)
If you are already in Mbale and prefer a quicker option, you can hire a boda boda to take you directly to Sipi Falls. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes, and the cost is usually around 20,000 UGX. Ensure that you wear a helmet and follow safety regulations while riding. The drivers are familiar with the area and can take you to the best viewpoints of Sipi Falls.
Walking
If you are adventurous and staying close to Sipi Falls, you may choose to walk. There are trails that lead from Chebonet village to the falls. Depending on your starting point, walking could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and carry water, as the terrain can be uneven.
