History of Kryvyi Rih

Kryvyi Rih, which means 'Crooked Horn' in Ukrainian, was founded in the 17th century by Zaporozhian Cossacks. The name is derived from a curved peninsula formed by the confluence of the Inhulets and Saksahan Rivers. Initially, it was a small settlement focused on agriculture and trade.
