History of Kropyvnytskyi

Kropyvnytskyi, originally known as Yelisavetgrad, was founded in 1754 as a fortress to protect the southern borders of the Russian Empire. The city was named after Empress Elizabeth of Russia, and it quickly grew as a military and administrative center due to its strategic location.
During the 19th century, Yelisavetgrad developed into a significant cultural and industrial hub.
