Car
From Down, take the A66 road heading northwest towards Penrith. After approximately 20 miles, you will reach a roundabout. Take the first exit onto the A6 towards Penrith. Continue on the A6 for about 3 miles. When you reach the village of Lowther, turn left onto Lowther Park Road. Follow this road, and you will see signs for Lowther Castle & Gardens. The parking area is on-site; there may be a parking fee of around £5.

From Down, take a local bus service to Penrith. The journey may take about 30-40 minutes. Once in Penrith, you can catch the number 104 bus towards Pooley Bridge, which stops at Lowther. Make sure to check the bus schedule for the return trip, as services may be limited in the evening. The fare for the bus from Down to Penrith is approximately £4, and from Penrith to Lowther, it will be around £2.
