Nestled beside Hadrian’s Wall in Greenhead, the Roman Army Museum offers an immersive journey into the life of Roman soldiers stationed on the empire’s northern frontier. Featuring life-sized replicas, authentic artefacts from Vindolanda, interactive exhibits, and an award-winning 3D film, the museum brings to life the discipline, training, and daily routines of the Roman army. Visitors can also witness ongoing excavations at the nearby Magna Roman Fort and enjoy accessible facilities including a café with views over the fort.

Driving to the Roman Army Museum from nearby cities like Carlisle or Newcastle typically takes 40 to 60 minutes. Free parking is available on-site. Note that rural roads can be narrow and winding, so drive carefully.

Seasonal AD 122 bus service operates from April to November, connecting the museum with Hexham, Newcastle, and Carlisle. Local bus routes 685/85 also serve Greenhead village nearby. Tickets cost approximately £5–£10 depending on distance.
