Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the city center, head towards the Market Place. From the Market Place, take the North Road heading east. Continue on this road until you reach the junction with the A177. Turn right onto the A177 and follow it until you reach the entrance to the Palace Green. You will see Durham Castle on your left as you approach.

  • Bus

    Catch any bus from the main bus station in Durham that is heading towards the university, such as the 'U' buses. Get off at the stop 'Palace Green'. From there, walk towards the castle which will be directly ahead of you, just a short walk across the green.

  • Walking

    From the Durham Cathedral, exit the cathedral grounds and walk down the hill towards the river. Cross the river using the Elvet Bridge. Once across, walk straight up the hill onto Palace Green. Durham Castle will be located on your right as you walk towards the green.

  • Walking

    If you are near the train station, exit the station and walk towards the city center along the A690. Continue straight until you reach the roundabout, then take the first exit onto North Road. Follow North Road towards the city center, and then turn left onto the A177. Continue until you reach Palace Green where Durham Castle is located.
