Marble Arch Caves (Open Year-Round) Travel Guide

The Marble Arch Caves are a spectacular natural limestone cave system located near Enniskillen in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. Formed over millennia by the erosive power of the Owenbrean River, these caves showcase dramatic subterranean rivers, vast chambers, and intricate formations such as stalactites and stalagmites. The caves were first explored in 1895 by French cave expert Édouard-Alfred Martel and Dublin naturalist Lyster Jameson, who ventured about 300 metres into the system with limited equipment. Accessibility is thoughtfully addressed with level flooring, ramps, and facilities for disabled visitors, including toilets and guide dog access. A Virtual Reality experience allows visitors to explore the caves digitally, providing an immersive introduction or alternative for those unable to join the physical tour. Free on-site parking and coach facilities make arrival convenient.

Tours operate daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with the last cave tour departing around 16:00. Booking tickets online in advance is strongly recommended, especially during peak seasons, to secure a place and potentially benefit from discounted rates. Children aged four and under require tickets but enter free, while those 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The cave floor can be wet and uneven, and visitors should wear sturdy footwear with good grip. Note that the boat trip is subject to water levels, which can fluctuate with rainfall, so checking tour availability in advance is wise.
