Bus and Walking
Take the local bus from Penrith or Carlisle to Appleby-in-Westmorland, with journeys typically lasting 40 to 60 minutes. From Appleby town center, a scenic 1.5-mile walk along marked footpaths follows the River Eden and Hoff Beck to Rutter Force. The walk is moderate with some uneven terrain and takes about 40 to 50 minutes.

Drive from Appleby-in-Westmorland south on the B6260 towards Orton for approximately 3 miles. Look for signposts directing to Rutter Force; a narrow lane leads down to a small parking area near the falls. Parking is limited to a few vehicles, so plan visits during off-peak times. No parking fees apply.
Cycling
Cyclists can reach Rutter Force from Appleby-in-Westmorland via quiet country lanes and bridleways. The route covers about 4 miles with gentle hills. Secure bike parking is not provided at the site, so bring suitable locks.
