Today, Appleby Castle operates as a historic attraction with daily guided tours during the summer months, which must be booked in advance due to limited group sizes. Visitors can explore the Norman Centre museum, which offers interactive exhibits and audio tours detailing the castle’s Norman heritage and broader history. The castle also hosts special events such as open-air theatre and historical battle re-enactments. Fine dining is available in the Great Hall, including banquet evenings that celebrate the castle’s medieval ambiance.

Appleby Castle has played a significant role in English and Scottish history, witnessing royal conflicts, rebellions, and civil wars. It was seized by Scottish King William the Lion in 1174 and later reclaimed by English monarchs.
