Car
If you are driving from the nearest city, Monticello, UT, take US-191 South for approximately 30 miles. You will pass through scenic landscapes and may spot wildlife along the way. After 30 miles, turn left onto the Needles District Road (also known as UT-211). Follow this road for about 12 miles until you reach the Elephant Hill Trailhead. Note that this road is unpaved and can be rough, so a high-clearance vehicle is recommended. There is no entrance fee for the parking area at the trailhead.
Public Transportation and Hiking
Public transportation options are very limited in this remote area. If you are staying in Monticello, your best bet is to arrange for a shuttle service that can take you to the Elephant Hill Trailhead. Check local listings for shuttle services that operate in the Canyonlands area. Once you arrive at the trailhead, you will find a well-marked hiking trail leading into the beautiful Needles region. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks, as facilities are limited.
