Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you're starting from the Capitol Reef National Park Visitor Center, head east on UT-24 for about 3 miles. Look for the Chimney Rock trailhead sign on the right side of the road. Turn onto the dirt access road and continue until you reach the parking area for the Chimney Rock trailhead. Parking is free, but be aware that the road may be unpaved, so ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain.
Public Transportation
Currently, there is no direct public transportation service within Capitol Reef National Park. Visitors can use a shuttle service or taxi from nearby towns like Torrey, which is approximately 10 miles from the park entrance. Once in the park, you will need to use a car to reach the Chimney Rock trailhead as there are no public transit options available within the park itself.
Hiking
Once you arrive at the Chimney Rock trailhead parking area, you can embark on a short hike to reach the Chimney Rock formation. The trail is approximately 1.5 miles round trip and is considered moderately easy. Follow the well-marked path, enjoying the scenic views along the way. Be sure to bring plenty of water and wear appropriate hiking footwear.
