From the entrance of St. Peter's Basilica, head directly towards the main square, Piazza San Pietro. As you exit, turn left and walk along the edge of the square. Continue straight past the obelisk and the fountains. After exiting the Vatican area, keep walking straight on Via della Conciliazione until you reach the intersection with Via Giuseppe Mazzini.

Once you reach Via Giuseppe Mazzini, turn right and continue walking for about 500 meters. You will pass by several cafes and shops. The Giardini di Piazza Mazzini will be on your left-hand side, just before you reach the actual Piazza Mazzini.

If you prefer to take public transport, exit St. Peter's Basilica and walk to the nearest bus stop on Via della Conciliazione. Take bus number 23 towards 'Piazza dei Giudici' and get off at the stop 'Piazza Mazzini'. From there, the Giardini di Piazza Mazzini will be directly in front of you.
