Walking
If you are in the Hoan Kiem Lake area, head towards the north side of the lake. Walk along the lake until you reach Hang Khay Street. Turn left onto Hang Khay and continue straight until you reach Tran Hung Dao Street. Take a right on Tran Hung Dao and walk for about 5 minutes. You will see Hoa Lo Prison on your left at 1 P. Hoả Lò.

Locate the nearest bus stop offering routes that go towards Hoan Kiem or the Old Quarter. You can take Bus No. 09 or 18, which stops near Hoa Lo Prison. Get off at the 'Hang Bai' bus stop. From there, walk down Tran Hung Dao Street for about 5 minutes. Hoa Lo Prison will be on your left at 1 P. Hoả Lò.

You can hire a cyclo (a three-wheeled bicycle taxi) from various locations around the Old Quarter. Simply tell the driver 'Hoa Lo Prison' or show them the address: 1 P. Hoả Lò. The ride should take around 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. The driver will drop you off right in front of the prison.
