If you are in downtown Blacksburg, start your journey at the intersection of Main Street and College Avenue. Head south on Main Street for about 0.6 miles until you reach the intersection with Merrimac Road. Turn left onto Merrimac Road and continue walking for about 0.5 miles. You will see Coal Mining Heritage Park on your right at 751 Merrimac Rd. As you approach, look for the park entrance that leads to the Loop Trail.

From downtown Blacksburg, you can take the Blacksburg Transit bus. Board the bus at the nearest stop on Main Street and take the Route 3 or Route 4 bus heading towards the Huckleberry Trail. Get off at the stop closest to Merrimac Road (it may be labeled as Merrimac Rd or Coal Mining Heritage Park). From the bus stop, walk about 0.1 miles down Merrimac Road to reach the entrance of Coal Mining Heritage Park and Loop Trail.
