Take Route 311 South, which will lead you towards the town of Catawba. The road will take you through scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. After approximately 10 miles, look for the McAfee Knob trailhead on your left. There is a parking area where you can leave your car. Note that there may be a small parking fee (approx. $3-$5) depending on the time of year and local regulations, so be prepared with cash.
Public Transportation + Hiking
For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Roanoke to Catawba. Check local schedules for the most current information. Once you arrive in Catawba, you will need to call a taxi or rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to reach the McAfee Knob trailhead, as public transport does not go directly there.
