From the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, head southeast on US-17 S. Continue for about 12 miles. Merge onto I-264 E toward Portsmouth. After approximately 6 miles, take exit 7B for US-460 E toward Suffolk. Continue on US-460 E for about 1.5 miles and take the exit toward High St. Merge onto High St. The Children's Museum of Virginia will be on your right at 221 High St, Portsmouth, VA 23704. Parking is available nearby, but may incur a fee depending on the area.

From the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, you will need to first reach a nearby public transport hub, such as the Suffolk Transit System. To do this, consider taking a rideshare service or taxi to the nearest bus stop in Suffolk. Once at the bus stop, take the Suffolk Transit Bus Route 2 towards Portsmouth. After about 30 minutes, disembark at the stop closest to High St. Walk about 10 minutes east on High St to reach the Children's Museum of Virginia at 221 High St, Portsmouth, VA 23704.
