Public Bus
From downtown Harrisonburg, head to the nearest bus stop on S Main St. Take the Shenandoah Valley Transit (SVT) Route 10 towards Stanley. This route will take you towards the outskirts of Harrisonburg and past several scenic areas. Ask the driver to let you know when you reach the stop for Skyline Drive. Once you get off the bus, you'll need to walk approximately 1 mile to reach Big Meadows Campground. Follow Skyline Drive north; you'll see signs for the campground along the way.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer a more active option, consider renting a bicycle from a local shop in Harrisonburg. Once you have your bike, head north on S Main St, then turn left onto E Market St. Continue until you reach Route 33 W. Follow Route 33 W for about 12 miles, and then turn onto Skyline Drive. Keep an eye out for signs that will direct you to Big Meadows Campground, which is approximately 5 miles along Skyline Drive. Make sure to wear a helmet and stay safe on the road!
Walking
If you're up for a long hike, start from downtown Harrisonburg and head towards the north side on S Main St. You'll walk approximately 15 miles to reach Skyline Drive. Follow the same path as mentioned in the bicycle rental option, sticking to Route 33 W. Once you get to Skyline Drive, you will walk about 5 miles to Big Meadows Campground. This option requires good walking shoes and plenty of water for hydration.
