History of Harrisonburg

Founding of Harrisonburg

Harrisonburg was officially founded in 1779 by Thomas Harrison, a notable figure in the region. The town's establishment followed Harrison's donation of 2.5 acres of land to construct a courthouse, which led to the town becoming the county seat of Rockingham County.
