Walking
If you're in South Roanoke, start at the intersection of 13th Street and Roanoke Avenue. Head southeast on Roanoke Avenue for about 0.5 miles until you reach the entrance to Mill Mountain Park on your left. Enter the park and follow the paved trail uphill for approximately 0.75 miles. The trail will lead you directly to the Mill Mountain Star, which will be visible as you approach the summit.
Biking
For a more exhilarating option, rent a bike from a local bike rental service in South Roanoke. From your starting point, navigate to the entrance of Mill Mountain Park via Roanoke Avenue, turning left into the park. Follow the designated bike trails, which are well-marked, up the hill towards the star. The biking distance is about 1.25 miles from the entrance to the star.
Public Transportation
If you prefer to use public transportation, check the local bus schedules. The Roanoke Valley Transit has a bus line that stops near Mill Mountain Park. Board the bus at the nearest stop to your location in South Roanoke. Once you get off, walk approximately 0.3 miles to the park entrance. From there, follow the walking trail uphill to reach the star.
