If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Cougar, WA. Head east on WA-503 E for about 3 miles. Then, turn left onto NF-83 (Forest Road 83). Continue on NF-83 for approximately 9 miles, following the signs for Lava Canyon. You will see the Lava Canyon Trailhead sign on your left. There is no parking fee at the trailhead, so you can park your vehicle there without any additional costs.

Currently, there are limited public transportation options directly to the Lava Canyon Trailhead. However, you can take a Greyhound or other regional bus service to the nearest town, which is Cougar, WA.
