If you are traveling by car, start your journey in Seattle and head towards Highway 99. From downtown Seattle, take 1st Ave S towards S Royal Brougham Way. Merge onto Highway 99 N via the ramp on the left. Continue on Highway 99 N and take the exit toward S Spokane St. Keep left at the fork, follow signs for I-90 W/Seattle/Tacoma Airport. Merge onto I-90 W and then take the exit toward I-5 N. Follow I-5 N to the West Seattle Bridge exit. After crossing the bridge, follow signs for Fauntleroy Way SW and then get to the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal. Here, you can take the ferry to Vashon Island. Note that ferry fees apply, typically around $10 for a one-way trip. Once on Vashon Island, follow local roads to reach the area close to Ballast Island.

For those using public transportation, start at a central location such as Pioneer Square in Seattle. From there, take the Link Light Rail to the SeaTac/Airport station. At the airport, transfer to the Sound Transit Express bus route 586 heading towards Vashon Island. Disembark at the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal. Here, you will board the ferry to Vashon Island. Keep in mind that the ferry fare is typically around $10 for a one-way trip. Once you arrive on Vashon Island, you may need to use a taxi or rideshare service to get closer to Ballast Island.
