If you are traveling by car, start by heading west on US-20 from any point in The Blue Mountains. Follow US-20 for approximately 30 miles until you reach the junction with OR-126. Merge onto OR-126 and continue for about 40 miles. Look for signs directing you to McKenzie Highway (OR-242). Turn onto McKenzie Highway and drive for about 15 miles. The Dee Wright Observatory will be on your left, just past the entrance to the McKenzie Pass-Santiam Pass Scenic Byway.
Public Transportation
To reach Dee Wright Observatory via public transportation, you can take a Greyhound or regional bus service to Eugene, Oregon. From Eugene, use local transit options like the Lane Transit District (LTD) to reach the nearby communities along OR-126. However, public transportation does not directly reach the observatory. Therefore, consider using a rideshare service or taxi from the nearest bus station to your destination, which may incur additional costs. Prepare for a potential wait as rideshare availability can vary.
Bicycle
For the adventurous, biking is an option! Begin at any point in The Blue Mountains and head towards US-20. You would follow the same route as cars, but be aware that some parts of the road may not have dedicated bike lanes. Ensure you wear a helmet and have proper gear for safety. The journey could take several hours depending on your fitness level and the weather conditions.
Hiking
