Getting There

• Car

  From any point in the Wind River Range, make your way to US-287 S. Follow US-287 S toward Lander. After about 30 miles, take the exit for US-26 E toward Riverton. Continue on US-26 E for approximately 45 miles until you reach the junction with I-80. Merge onto I-80 E. After about 18 miles, take exit 299 for Buford. Turn left onto Monument Rd. Continue straight for about 1.5 miles, and you will reach Ames Monument State Historic Site at 210 Monument Rd, Buford, WY 82052. Please note that there is no entry fee for the site.

• Public Transportation

  If you're using public transportation, the nearest bus service is in Lander. Take the bus from Lander to Cheyenne, which is managed by Greyhound or a similar service. From Cheyenne, you will need to take a taxi or rideshare service to reach Ames Monument State Historic Site as there is no direct public transport available.
