Getting There

• Car

  From any location within the Wind River Range, head towards US-26 E/US-287 S. Follow US-26 E for approximately 30 miles until you reach the town of Riverton. In Riverton, take the exit onto WY-789 S. Continue on WY-789 S for about 44 miles until you reach Thermopolis. Wind River Canyon is located along WY-789, and you will see signs for the canyon as you approach. There are designated turn-offs along the highway for scenic viewpoints.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, you can take an intercity bus service from Riverton to Thermopolis. Check local bus schedules for the latest information. Once you arrive in Thermopolis, you can either walk or take a taxi to reach the Wind River Canyon. The canyon is approximately 10 miles south of the Thermopolis bus station along WY-789. Be sure to check the bus schedules ahead of time for departure and arrival times.

• Bicycle

  For those who are adventurous and enjoy cycling, you can bike from Thermopolis to Wind River Canyon. The distance is about 10 miles along WY-789. Ensure you have the necessary biking gear and follow all safety regulations. The route has some inclines, so be prepared for a workout!

• Walking

  If you are staying in Thermopolis and would like to hike to Wind River Canyon, note that it is approximately 10 miles from the town center. Walking along WY-789 can be challenging due to traffic, so it is advisable to start early in the morning when traffic is lighter. Wear appropriate footwear and carry water, as this route does not have many services along the way.
