Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Chipata, the capital of Eastern Province. Head west on the T4 road towards Lusaka. After approximately 80 km, you will reach the junction of the T4 and the M1 road. Take the M1 road south towards the Lower Zambezi National Park. Continue for about 60 km until you see signs for the Lower Zambezi National Park and Chula Island Camp. Follow the dirt roads leading into the park, ensuring you have a high-clearance vehicle, as some sections may be rough. The camp is located on Chula Island within the park. Be aware that park entrance fees may apply, typically around $10 for locals and $20 for international visitors.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, take a bus from Chipata to Lusaka. Buses leave frequently from the Chipata bus station. Once in Lusaka, head to the bus terminal and catch a bus heading to Mazabuka or Lower Zambezi. Inform the driver of your destination, Chula Island Camp, to ensure you get off at the correct junction. After disembarking, you may need to hire a local taxi or arrange a pickup, as the camp is not directly accessible by public transport. Expect to pay around $30 for a taxi ride from the junction to the camp. Make sure to plan your trip accordingly, as public transport can have unpredictable schedules.
