Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Chipata, the capital of Eastern Province. Head south on the M1 road towards the town of Nyimba. After approximately 70 kilometers, take the turnoff to the D175 road, which leads towards the Lower Zambezi National Park. Continue on the D175 for about 50 kilometers until you reach the park entrance. Once inside, follow the signs towards Kutali Camp, approximately 20 kilometers from the entrance. Ensure you have your park entry fees ready, as they may cost around ZMW 150 per person.
Public Transportation
To reach Kutali Camp via public transportation, first take a bus from Chipata to Nyimba. The bus fare is around ZMW 30. From Nyimba, you will need to find a local taxi or minibus that can take you to the D175 road leading to the Lower Zambezi National Park. The fare for the taxi should cost approximately ZMW 50. Upon arriving at the park entrance, you will need to pay the park entry fee (about ZMW 150 per person). After entering the park, you can hire a local guide or arrange a vehicle through Kutali Camp to reach the camp itself, which is about 20 kilometers from the entrance.
Private Transfer
For a more comfortable journey, consider booking a private transfer from Chipata to Kutali Camp. Several local tour operators offer this service. The cost for a private vehicle can range from ZMW 800 to ZMW 1200, depending on the vehicle type and number of passengers. This service typically includes park entry fees but confirm with the operator beforehand. The drive will take approximately 2-3 hours, depending on road conditions.
