Getting there

Car

From Great Zimbabwe National Monument, head northwest on the A4 highway towards Masvingo. Drive for approximately 30 km until you reach the junction with the A12 highway. Turn left onto the A12 and continue for about 240 km until you reach the town of Kariba. Once in Kariba, follow the signs to the Mana Pools National Park entrance, which is roughly 65 km from Kariba. Note that the road to the park can be rough in places, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Be sure to check the conditions beforehand.

Public Transportation

From Great Zimbabwe National Monument, you can take a taxi or local bus to Masvingo. Once in Masvingo, find a bus service heading to Kariba. The journey to Kariba will typically take around 4-5 hours. After arriving in Kariba, you will need to take a local taxi or arrange for a shuttle to Mana Pools National Park. The distance is about 65 km, and it is advisable to negotiate the fare beforehand. Be prepared for some waiting time at bus stations.

Combination (Car and Boat)

If you prefer a scenic route, consider driving to Kariba and then taking a boat across Kariba Lake to reach Mana Pools. After arriving in Kariba from Great Zimbabwe, you can hire a boat at the marina. This option can be more expensive but offers a unique experience. Ensure you book your boat in advance and confirm the costs, as they can vary depending on the season and the service provider.
