The Wada House is the largest traditional gassho-style farmhouse in Shirakawa-go. Built late in the Edo period (1603–1867), the house reflects the wealth and status of the Wada family, which for centuries was the largest landowner in the village of Ogimachi and whose members held the hereditary position of village headman (nanushi).
Hida-Takayama Miyagawa Morning Market
The Miyagawa Morning Market is well known and is bustling from the early morning as the main tourist attraction in Hida-Takayama. It is said the Miyagawa Morning Market originated in the early 1800’s as a mulberry tree market for sericulture held within the Takayama Betsuin Temple. Since then, for over 100 years the market was held in different locations, but settled in its current location around 1960.
Hida Folk Village, Hida-no-Sato is an open-air museum of about 30 old farmhouses illustrating traditional architectural styles of Japan's mountainous regions. Of particular interest are the thatched and shingled roofs, such as the gassho-zukuri style buildings.
Takayama Betsuin Shorenji Temple
Takayama Betsuin Shorenji Temple is a Buddhist temple in Takayama. It is located around a five-minute walk from JR Takayama Station. The temple's three-story pagoda was built in 1820. Inside the main building, there is a Buddhist statue believed to have been made during the Heian period. Don't forget to notice the large gingko tree on the temple grounds, which is over 1,260 years old.
Takayama Jinya is a surviving Edo period Jinya that served as the Daikansho for Hida Province under the Tokugawa shogunate in Japan from 1692 to 1871. It is located in what is now Hachiken-machi of Takayama City in Gifu Prefecture. . It has been protected as a National Historic Landmark since 1929.
