This sacred complex offers a. glimpse into Sri Lankan Buddhism through temple experience and through a museum dedicated to the development and spread of Buddhism. The site has small exhibitions as well including a museum dedicated to temple elephants, a museum dedicated to the history of the temple, and lovely spots for reflection scattered through the site. Proper attire required: covered legs above shins and covered shoulders -- men and women.
Royal Botanical Gardens
This lovely and historic garden is the place where tea made its debut on the island. You can also see samples of tropical plants that now fill your gardens and homes that were originally cultivated here. Enjoy a spice garden, an orchid house, a massive bamboo grove and a large colony of fruit bats.
This new temple features a lovely 88 foot tall seated Buddha and a stupa filled with lovely mural. The view of Kandy is quite lovely as well.
This museum offers a free guided tour or a self-guided tour where you can understand how the processing of tea was developed in the Kandy area. You can also enjoy a cup of tea and discount in the tea shop.
