What to expect
Hobart
Passing through Hobart and South Hobart we point out some of the historic buildings and share interesting aspects of its history.
Then we explore the classic Cascade Gardens with one of the best collections of Rhododendron is Australia, its graceful trees and lawns and the Hobart RIvulet. We also get to view the historic Cascade brewry building from 1824 and Mt Wellington towering over us.
We will make a brief stop to view the outside of the historic Female Factory convict site from 1835 and have a breif sharing. We will also view the Hobart rivulet which flows down from Mount Wellington where platypus have been sighted.
Fern Tree
Passing through Fern Tree we will see the tall ferns, lush cool climate gardens and tell some of its stories.
The Springs Wellington Park
Here we gaze up at the spectacular cliffs and summit of Mount Wellington and can purchase a hot drink at the Lost Freight Cafe half way up the mountain. We will also take a short stroll to the Springs lookout where we can take in the view including Hobart, The Tasman Bridge, Bruny Island, the mouth of the Derwent River and The Tasman Peninsula. We will then take a short drive to the site of the former Springs Hotel and share some history and discuss some pioneering weather forecasting on the mounatain.
Pinnacle Rd
We then ascend through increasingly good views of Hobart. We make a stop at the Chalet to behold the colourful and resilient snow gums, flowering banksia trees, a waterfall, the unique dolerite hut and views of Hobart. David your Guide has studied botany, geology and water resources at a local university in Hobart and is well able to explain this unique mountain environment. He has experienced this mountain since young and has many stories of the mountain to share.
Now above the tree line the wheels again do the climbing and you do the viewing, with a scenic drive to the summit. Up here the views only get better, now including some of the mountains of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. We get to have free time to take in stunning views from the Hobart and South West Wilderness viewing platforms, see unique Tasmanian alpine vegetation and rock formations. At the summit, you will be filled with astonishment, to be launched forth into an ocean of natural goodness where you can see no limits.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
