A pre-performance explanation of Toei Noh will be held at Yoshikien Shuto, a historical building located on the former grounds of Kohfuku-ji Temple. Known as the Former Shohoin Family Residence, it is a registered tangible cultural property of Nara Prefecture and is now part of the Shisui Luxury Collection Hotel. Normally closed to the public, entering this cultural asset is a rare opportunity in itself. The explanation will be provided by Dr. Petko Slavov, who holds a doctorate in Noh studies, and Ms. Yoshie Yamamoto, a Noh specialist from Yamamoto Noh Theater. They will offer accessible and insightful commentary on the background of the play, the meaning of movements, and the connection between Noh and Buddhism. English interpretation will be provided, ensuring that international guests and beginners can enjoy and understand the content with ease.
