    Vera was a wonderful and informative tour guide. She shared so much information about Ghent and its beautiful architecture as well delightful details about the myriad of food tastings we had. We had a great time (ages spanning 14-76!) and would highly recommend this to anyone.

    Please avoid this tour at all costs as it was HORRIBLE. Nick was supposed to be our tour guide, but he wasn't there (probably because a torrential downpour was expected), and he made a female employee do the tour. She was very nice and felt bad for us because the tour was abysmal. For about $500 USD, our family of 8 people (including two little kids) went around in circles for hours in the pouring rain to obtain the following: (1) a chocolate square froma chocolatier (okay chocolate); (2) a walk to an average apartment building in the middle of nowhere to point out that many years ago people lived 12 to an apartment there and ate "rotten potato" candy - we were each handed 1 "rotten potato" candy (not good); (3) a walk to the "oldest candy store" in town where we were led to the back of a musty room and given 2 candies of the type that you find in your grandma's sofa cushions; (4) a shot (in the middle of the street) of some apple gin that were served in test tubes as if this cheap skinflint guy bought a bottle for 5 Euros and made portable samples (what a joke); (5) 3 bottles of beer at a mediocre bar (the only place we sat inside), which we could have bought ourselves; (6) the cheese croquette place (Chappelur) was CLOSED and this so-called "tour guide" guy didn't even know it - our poor female guide repeatedly called him because it was going badly, but he didn't care; (7) an average deli were we stood around a plate of sliced pork cold-cut and, get this.... HORSE MEAT (awful). The female tour guide apologized repeatedly, and, when we emailed this owner Nick, he just said sorry to read your email. We emailed him again and suggested a partial refund given that the tour sucked, we wasted 3 hours, the tasting were a joke, and no one was happy, especially the kids. No response. Here's the last thing that tells you everything you need to know about this guy: when we asked if kids were cheaper because they obviously don't drink, he said "no they are actually more if they're annoying." A very poor experience.

    I’ve probably been on 30 food / culture tours. This was the best. Our guide was Nick, the owner of the company. He was great to talk to. We learned a ton about the food, but also about the culture. I’ve been on a lot of food tours before where it’s just eat, eat, eat and learn nothing. Not this one. We learned a lot about the culture and government. Nick, like me, is somewhat of a Political buff, and we had good discussions. I learned a lot. We got a good city tour of Ghent out of this tour also. We tried Belgian fries with a gravy and mayonnaise. Awesome. We tried several kinds of Belgian chocolate, Belgian beers, some sliced meat (the local ham was better than I’ve had in Spain and Italy), and even horse meat (try it). I would suggest doing this first thing when you arrive, as you’ll walk the city and get a good feel of it.

    5 of us from USA had a wonderful time doing our tasting tour of Ghent. Nick was a wealth of information across a wide range of topics. We were delighted that he was happy to engage on subjects which some might avoid including politics, migrants, etc. Always interesting to get other people's perspective in a respectful dialog. I will say this is a "taste" tour. Do book dinner as you'll be wanting it afterwards. Last time we took a similar tour in Prague we were stuffed. We struggled after the tour to find a restaurant in the busy Christmas season.
