Templo Romano de Evora (Templo de Diana)

Looking at this Roman Temple, also known (wrongly) as the Temple of Diana, is like going back to the past and idealizing times that are already there. It is one of the most important, if not the most important historical landmarks of Évora, and also one of the most visible symbols of Roman occupation in the city.

3
Cathedral of Evora (Se Catedral de Evora)

Dedicated to Santa Maria, the Évora Cathedral was built in the 13th and 14th centuries, under the royal patronage of D. Afonso III and Bishop D. Durando Pais, in the Romanesque and Gothic styles, with the ogival portico decorated with sculptures. of the Apostolate and the cloister. Previously there was another episcopal seat, but its location is unknown. The chancel is from the 18th century (Baroque style), by the German architect Frederico Ludovici. Inside, there are many architectural and artistic elements of relevance, such as the choir chair, the Renaissance organ, the pieces of the Museum of Sacred Art (sculpture, painting, parliamentary and jewelery), among others.

Igreja da Misericordia

The church began to be built in 1554. It has a unique nave and is rectangular in plan. With a classic profile, very sober, it presents a magnificent set of baroque art from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is one of the most beautiful churches in the city. It is covered by a magnificent tiled decoration, dating from 1715, by the António de Oliveira Bernardes Lisbon workshop. This set of tiles with blue and white decoration, consists of seven panels representing the Works of Mercy and represents one of the master's most important tile sets.

Chapel of Bones

The Bones Chapel is one of the best known monuments of Évora in Portugal. It is situated in the Church of San Francisco. It was built in the seventeenth century on the initiative of three Franciscan monks who, in the spirit of the time (religious counter-reform according to the norms of the Council of Trent), intended to convey the message of the transience of life, as the famous warning at the entrance: "We bones that are here for your waiting." In addition to the spiritual question, there was also a physical question, namely; there were forty-two monastic cemeteries in the Évora region that were taking up too much space and strategic places that many intended to use for other purposes. So they decided to remove the skeletons from the earth and use them to build and decorate the chapel.
