What to expect
Dubrovnik
The exploration of this captivating city starts with Fort Lovrijenac, where you'll meet your guide. You'll discover Dubrovnik along with your local guide on a walking tour through the huge fort and walk right on the ancient stone drawbridge where many princesses were sure to walk on. Then, you'll take a look at the Pile Gate - the main entrance to the magnificent fort. Your local host will take you on a marvelous adventure through Old Town and show you all the nooks and crannies, located throughout the city. The Onophrian Fountain is located next to the Pile Gate, and which you definitely be taken aback by in the best way possible! The beauty of this fountain, the history around it is breathtaking and your guide will tell you all about it!
Dubrovnik
After that, you'll take a stroll through Stradun Street, the most famous street in Dubrovnik, and gasp at the beautiful sites. The tour through Old Town will take you to the Square od Poljana R. Boskovica, home to a local Farmers market, and show you the famous Spanish Steps. You think that's it? Oh, no! You'll also get to look inside the Rector's palace! The beautiful Gothic-Renaissance structure. The tour through Old Town concludes with a slow and inspirational walk on a nearby beach, popular among locals. This adventure will give you a truly different perspective on the city and its culture.
Discover charming villages and stunning scenery as you walk to the little bay together with your host, while observing the St. Lawrence Fortress, also referred to as the ‘Gibraltar of Dubrovnik’. This a fortress and theater outside one of the walls of the city. Two drawbridges lead to the fort and above the gate, there’s an inscription: Non Bene Pro Toto Libertas Venditur Auro, which means Freedom isn’t to be sold for all the treasures in the world. Lovrijenac's use as a stage was a recent addition to the long history of the fort, and the performance of Shakespeare's Hamlet has become a tradition of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.
Fall in love with the country - take a look at the main entrance to the city while your host explains more about the wooden bridge and the architecture. Part of the historic city fortress, this 1537 stone gate features a drawbridge and the magnificent Renaissance arch. The main entrance to Old Town, busy Pile Gate in the old times used to have a wooden drawbridge that used to be pulled up at night to prevent unwelcome guests from entering the medieval, walled city. The drawbridge was replaced by a stone one a while ago so nowadays, the beautiful stone bridge leads across the small green passage through the Gate to the Old town and down the steps to Stradun, the Town’s main attraction.
Why follow the crowds? Enter the beautiful UNESCO-listed Old Town through a small, secret entrance. In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites. The city boasts lots of churches, monasteries, fountains, and plazas to discover!
You’ll hear about how this was a very important water-supply source back in the day and how it got destroyed. Check out The Onophrian Fountain right next to the Pile Gates and opposite to the Church of Holy Salvation. It was built from 1438 to 1440 by Onofrio della Cava after finishing the great Aquaduct system.
Stradun
Find a square tile in the middle of Stradun and discover what it’s used for. Stradun is the main street in Dubrovnik. The limestone-paved wide pedestrian street runs for about 300 metres through the Old Town, the historic part of the city surrounded by the cities walls.
Square Poljana R. Boskovica
Explore the square - home to a local Farmers market and the Spanish Steps.
Take a glance at this beautiful Gothic-Renaissance structure - it offers an insight into Croatian culture and architecture. The Rector's Palace is a palace in the city of Dubrovnik that once used to serve as the seat of the Rector between the 14th century and the beginning of the 19th century. It was also the seat of the Minor Council and the state administration. Furthermore, it housed an incredible Armory, the powder magazine, the watch house, and a prison. The rector's palace was built in the Gothic style, but also has Renaissance and Baroque elements, which have harmoniously combined these elements together. Originally, it was a site of a defense building at the beginning of the Middle Ages.
City Harbor
End the sight-seeing tour with a cool, rocky beach, next to the old harbor which not many people know about. More than 2,000 missiles struck Dubrovnik during the siege in both 1991 and 1992. The Old City Harbor, part of the fortress wall that protected the city from military attacks throughout the centuries, sustained numerous direct hits and still stands to this day!
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
