A Fond Farewell

As our family adventure in Todra Gorge draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences we've shared over the past nine days. This trip has been more than just a vacation; it’s been a journey of discovery, connection, and unforgettable memories. From the moment we arrived, the majestic landscapes and the warmth of the Berber people captivated us. Now, on our final day, I want to share some of the highlights and reflections from our time in this remarkable corner of Morocco.

Our last day began, as most others did, with a hearty breakfast at CAFE RESTAURANT JANNAT in Tinghir. While the reviews might be mixed, we found it a convenient spot to fuel up before our day's activities. The coffee wasn't the best, but the tacos and sandwiches were satisfying enough to give us the energy we needed. Aisha, ever the practical one, reminded me that sometimes convenience trumps culinary perfection, especially when traveling with a family eager to start the day. I must admit, she had a point.

With our bellies full, we decided to explore Rock n Yogi Adventures. Tunde, always seeking an adrenaline rush, was particularly excited about this. While I'm more of a 'grounded' type, even I couldn't deny the allure of the stunning rock formations. Rock n Yogi Adventures offers a unique blend of rock climbing and yoga, perfect for those seeking both physical challenge and mental relaxation. Although we didn't participate in any climbing ourselves, we learned that Todra Gorge is one of Morocco's most popular climbing destinations, boasting approximately 400 bolted climbs suitable for everyone from beginners to advanced climbers. Perhaps on our next visit, I’ll be brave enough to try it out.

Next on our list was Toudgha essoufla park. This serene oasis provided a welcome contrast to the rugged landscapes of the gorge. As we strolled through the lush greenery, Funke, with her keen eye for beauty, captured countless photos of the vibrant flowers and peaceful scenery. The park is perfect for leisurely walks and picnics, offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. I found myself particularly drawn to the soothing sounds of nature, a welcome change from the constant hum of Ottawa. Aisha and I found a quiet bench where we sat and reflected on our journey, enjoying the peaceful ambiance of the park.

For lunch, we ventured to Chez lbriaa, a local restaurant known for its authentic Moroccan cuisine. The tagines were flavorful and the atmosphere was cozy. It was a delightful experience that allowed us to savor the true essence of Moroccan hospitality. Aisha was particularly impressed with the spices used in the tagine, and she was eager to try and recreate the dish back home. As we savored our meal, we reminisced about our previous culinary adventures in Morocco, from the bustling markets of Marrakech to the aromatic street food of Fes.

In the afternoon, we indulged in some retail therapy at D'Argent Berber Toudra. This shop offered a beautiful array of Berber crafts and jewelry. Aisha and Funke were particularly drawn to the intricate designs and vibrant colors of the traditional Berber jewelry. We purchased a few souvenirs to remind us of our time here and to share with friends and family back in Ottawa. I even managed to find a beautiful silver pendant for Aisha, a small token of my appreciation for her unwavering support and companionship.

As the day drew to a close, we gathered for our final dinner at Restaurant Cafe Central. This charming guesthouse offered comfortable accommodations and delicious traditional Moroccan cuisine. The rooftop terrace provided a stunning view of the surrounding area, allowing us to soak in the beauty of Todra Gorge one last time. We shared stories, laughter, and heartfelt reflections on our incredible journey. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day.

Looking back on our time in Todra Gorge, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences we've shared as a family. We’ve hiked through breathtaking landscapes, explored local Berber culture, and indulged in the rich flavors of Moroccan cuisine. Todra Gorge has offered us a unique blend of adventure and tranquility, creating memories that will last a lifetime. The weather in December was pleasantly cool, with daytime highs around 18-20°C, making it ideal for hiking and exploring. Although the nights were chilly, the clear skies provided stunning opportunities for stargazing.

As we prepare to leave Todra Gorge and begin our journey back to Ottawa, I can't help but feel a sense of melancholy. This trip has been a welcome escape from our daily routines, a chance to reconnect with each other and with the world around us. But as much as I will miss the majestic landscapes and the warmth of the Moroccan people, I know that we will carry the memories of this adventure with us always.

Tomorrow marks the end of our trip. We'll begin the long journey home, filled with stories to tell and photographs to share. As I close this chapter of our travel blog, I want to thank you, our readers, for joining us on this incredible adventure. Your support and encouragement have meant the world to us.

Until our next adventure, may your travels be filled with wonder, discovery, and unforgettable memories.

Safe travels!
