A Day of Exploration and Culinary Delights

Today was a symphony of nature's wonders and gastronomic experiences here on Ishigaki Island. From verdant parks to mysterious caves, and from savory breakfasts to exquisite dinners, every moment felt like a new discovery. Liam and I dove headfirst into the heart of the island, eager to uncover its hidden treasures and share them with you all.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at AZZURRA. The charming Italian eatery was a surprising find, offering a refreshing change from the local Okinawan cuisine. The stylish interior and warm hospitality of the owners made us feel right at home. I opted for a vegetarian dish, and Liam enjoyed a hearty pasta. It was the perfect start to fuel our adventurous day ahead.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we set off to Banna Park. This vast natural park, located on the slopes of Mt. Banna, is a haven for nature lovers. As we walked through the park, we were greeted by the sight of exotic tropical trees and vibrant flowers. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blossoms and the gentle hum of insects. Banna Park is divided into five distinct zones, each offering a unique experience. We explored the Forest Passeo, where countless butterflies fluttered around us.

We also ventured to the Skyline zone, which led us to several observation points. The views from these vantage points were simply breathtaking, offering panoramic vistas of the island and the surrounding ocean. From the Emerald Sea Observation Point, we could see the crystal-clear waters stretching out to the horizon, with Taketomi Island visible in the distance. It was a truly awe-inspiring sight, reminding us of the incredible beauty of this island.

In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.

After immersing ourselves in the beauty of Banna Park, we ventured to the Ishigaki Island Ibaruma Sabichi Cave. This unique limestone cave is unlike any other I’ve ever seen; it’s the only cave in Japan that opens directly to the sea. The entrance to the cave was shrouded in mystery, with hanging stalactites creating a sense of anticipation. As we ventured deeper, the darkness enveloped us, and the air grew cooler and damp.

The cave itself was a marvel of natural artistry, with intricate rock formations and glistening stalactites and stalagmites. The sound of dripping water echoed through the cavern, adding to the mystical ambiance. It felt like stepping into another world, a hidden realm untouched by time.

Emerging from the darkness of the cave, we were greeted by the dazzling sight of the crystal-clear ocean. The contrast between the dark, enclosed space of the cave and the bright, open expanse of the sea was striking. We walked along the rocky coastline, marveling at the strange rock formations and the pristine beach. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore filled the air, creating a sense of peace and tranquility.

For lunch, we stopped at Yaeyama Zenfu Kokkara, a restaurant known for its authentic Okinawan cuisine. We savored rare dishes exclusive to the Yaeyama Islands, immersing ourselves in the local culinary culture. The restaurant's traditional Ryukyu decor and warm hospitality made us feel like honored guests.

As the day drew to a close, we headed to Sumibi Yakiniku Takesantei for dinner. This yakiniku restaurant is renowned for its exquisite Ishigaki beef, and we were eager to experience it for ourselves. The tender, flavorful meat was cooked to perfection over charcoal, and each bite was a culinary delight. The cozy interior and attentive service added to the charm of the restaurant, making it a perfect ending to our day.

Before heading back to our guesthouse, we decided to treat ourselves to a nightcap at The Star Bar. Located at the Fusaki Beach Resort, this bar offers a laid-back atmosphere and stunning views of the ocean. We enjoyed our drinks by the poolside, listening to the gentle sound of the waves and gazing at the starlit sky. It was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on the day's adventures.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore the Toujin Tomb and relax on the sands of Yonehara Beach. I'm also hoping to find some unique souvenirs at Mahsuya Ishigaki. It's hard to believe we're already nearing the end of our trip. Time really does fly when you're immersed in such incredible beauty and adventure.

I'm so grateful for these experiences with Liam, and I can't wait to see what other wonders Ishigaki Island has in store for us. Until tomorrow, happy travels!

P.S. I really need to remember to pack insect repellent next time. The little critters here are quite persistent! And a portable phone charger would be a lifesaver too!
