Day 10: Chasing Waterfalls and Beach Vibes: A Day of Ghanaian Delights
Experience Ghana's beauty with a visit to Boti Waterfalls, local cuisine, and beachside relaxation. A perfect blend of nature and culture.
A Day of Ghanaian Exploration
Today was a day of contrasts, a beautiful blend of nature's wonders and the vibrant culture of Ghana. Leaving the serene embrace of Kakum National Park, we ventured out to experience more of what this captivating country has to offer. It was a day filled with the soothing sounds of cascading water, the rich flavors of local cuisine, and the rhythmic pulse of Accra's beach life.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Golden Cape Cafe Eve's Pork. The name alone was intriguing, and it didn't disappoint. We savored a delicious meal, fueling up for our adventure to Boti Waterfalls. It was a great way to start the day, and Nadia was especially excited about the pork.
The Majesty of Boti Waterfalls
The drive to Boti Waterfalls was an experience in itself, offering glimpses of rural Ghanaian life. The landscape transformed as we approached the falls, becoming lusher and greener. When we arrived, the air was thick with the scent of damp earth and the sound of rushing water.

The descent to the falls was a bit of a trek, with quite a few steps to navigate. Liam, ever the supportive husband, held Nadia's hand, carefully guiding her down. As we reached the bottom, the sight of Boti Waterfalls was truly breathtaking. The water cascaded down the rocks, creating a refreshing mist that kissed our faces. The falls are considered to be male and female, and during the rainy season, they merge in what the locals describe as a mating ceremony. Although November is toward the end of the rainy season, the falls were still impressive.
We took our time exploring the area, marveling at the Umbrella Rock and the unique Three-Headed Palm Tree. Nadia was fascinated by the rock formations, imagining all sorts of creatures in their shapes. It was a moment of pure joy, watching her connect with nature in such a profound way. I couldn't help but think how different this was from our life in Kingston, and how important it is for her to experience these kinds of adventures.
Nature is not a place to visit. It is home.
After our exploration, we enjoyed a picnic lunch by the falls. We had packed some sandwiches and local fruits, a simple meal that tasted extraordinary in such a setting. As we ate, we listened to the soothing sounds of the water and the chirping of birds, feeling a sense of peace and tranquility wash over us.
A Taste of Local Flavors
In the afternoon, we drove to Cape Coast for lunch at Nice and Rich. This restaurant came highly recommended, known for its authentic Ghanaian cuisine. We were greeted by Esi, the owner, who welcomed us with open arms. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the aroma of spices filled the air.

We ordered a variety of dishes, including jollof rice, banku, and palava sauce. Each dish was a burst of flavors, a testament to the richness of Ghanaian cuisine. Nadia, who can be a picky eater, surprised us by devouring the jollof rice. It was a proud moment for me, seeing her embrace the local culture through its food. Esi even offered to teach me how to make Red Red and Palava sauce with plantains.
Beachside Bliss at Sandbox Beach Club
As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Accra, eager to experience the city's vibrant beach life. We had dinner reservations at Sandbox Beach Club, a popular spot known for its stunning beachfront setting. As we arrived, the sun was beginning to set, casting a golden glow over the ocean.

The atmosphere at Sandbox was electric, with music playing and people dancing on the sand. We found a table near the water and ordered some drinks and appetizers. The sea breeze was refreshing, and the sound of the waves was hypnotic. Nadia was thrilled to be at the beach, running around and collecting seashells.
For dinner, we enjoyed a delicious meal of seafood and grilled meats. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the presentation was impeccable. As we ate, we watched the sunset, marveling at the beauty of the Ghanaian coastline. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploration and adventure.
After dinner, Liam and I decided to check out The Boom Pub, while Nadia slept peacefully in the car. It was a lively spot with a great atmosphere, the perfect place to unwind after a long day. We enjoyed a couple of drinks and chatted with some locals, learning more about the city and its culture.

As we drove back to our campsite, I reflected on the day's experiences. We had seen so much, tasted so much, and learned so much. Ghana had truly captured our hearts, and we were eager to see what tomorrow would bring.
Tomorrow marks the final day of our family adventure in Ghana. We plan to visit Ankasa Game Reserve & Nini-Suhien National Park, hoping to catch a glimpse of more of Ghana's diverse wildlife. We'll have breakfast at Taste N Tell, lunch at Castle Beach Restaurant, and a farewell dinner at The Gold Coast Restaurant & Cocktail Bar. Before heading to the airport, I'm hoping to squeeze in a visit to Inka Accessories Ghana to pick up some souvenirs. It’s hard to believe our trip is coming to an end. This journey has been more than just a vacation; it's been a cultural immersion, a family bonding experience, and a chance to reconnect with nature. As an Ivorian immigrant in Canada, it’s important for me to show Nadia the beauty and richness of our African heritage, and this trip has been a dream come true.
