A Day of Tranquility and Taste
Today was a beautiful departure from the bustling souks and vibrant city center. It was a day dedicated to exploring the serene landscapes and artistic havens just outside Marrakech, a welcome change of pace that allowed me to reflect on the beauty that Morocco holds. I was particularly excited about visiting Anima (André Heller Garden), a place where art and nature intertwine, and spending time by Lalla Takerkoust, a tranquil lake nestled at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. Traveling with friends always makes these experiences richer, as we share laughter, insights, and create lasting memories together.

Our day began with a truly regal experience: breakfast at La Mamounia. The hotel itself is an architectural marvel, a blend of Art Deco and Moroccan design that whispers stories of its illustrious past. As we sat by the poolside at Le Pavillon de la Piscine, the morning sun casting a golden glow over the lush gardens, I felt transported to another era. The breakfast buffet was a lavish spread, a symphony of flavors and aromas that included an omelet station, pastries, an array of local and international options, and, of course, the delightful Pierre Hermé creations. The pistachio-filled croissant was heavenly! The waiters were incredibly friendly and made sure we enjoyed our breakfast.
Fuelled by our luxurious breakfast, we set off to Anima Garden, created by the artist André Heller. The journey itself was an experience, as we drove through the outskirts of Marrakech, the landscape slowly transforming from urban sprawl to a more rugged, natural terrain. Arriving at Anima Garden felt like stepping into another world. The garden is a sensory explosion of colors, scents, and shapes, a place where art and nature coexist in perfect harmony. As we strolled along the winding paths, we were greeted by exotic plants, whimsical sculptures, and breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains. It was a magical place, a sanctuary of peace and inspiration. I was particularly captivated by the works of Pablo Picasso and Keith Haring, juxtaposed against the backdrop of lush greenery.
The garden is a place of sensuality, of wonder, of contemplation, of joy, of healing, and of inspiration.
After immersing ourselves in the artistic wonderland of Anima Garden, we headed to Lalla Takerkoust, a serene lake nestled at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. The drive was scenic, winding through Berber villages and olive groves, offering glimpses into the traditional Moroccan way of life. As we approached the lake, the landscape opened up, revealing a vast expanse of shimmering water against the backdrop of the majestic Atlas Mountains. The air was fresh and crisp, a welcome change from the city's hustle and bustle. We spent the afternoon exploring the lake, taking in the breathtaking views, and enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings. I learned that swimming is prohibited in the lake since it is a water reservoir. Some of my friends were tempted to try quad biking around the lake, while others were content with a leisurely stroll along the shore.

For lunch, we chose the Henna Café, a charming spot known for its vegetarian options and ethical practices. It was the perfect place to recharge after our morning adventures. The lentil soup was delicious and the waiter was so kind and honest. The rooftop seating provided a pleasant escape from the heat, and it was fascinating to watch the henna artists at work, creating intricate designs with 100% natural henna ink. I decided to get a small henna tattoo as a souvenir of my time in Marrakech, a beautiful reminder of the city's artistic spirit.

In the late afternoon, before heading back to the Riad, we stopped at the Haj Mbarek Store. I had read about it and was excited to explore its collection of handmade Moroccan crafts. The store was a treasure trove of vibrant colors and intricate designs, a testament to the skill and artistry of local artisans. I purchased a few small souvenirs for my family back in Stuttgart, each piece carrying a piece of Moroccan culture and history.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Le Bar Majorelle for a pre-dinner drink. The bar exuded an exotic atmosphere, and the accommodating staff made us feel right at home. I ordered a cocktail and enjoyed the cool service and the company of my friends as we reminisced about the day's adventures.

Our day culminated in a truly unforgettable dining experience at La Grande Table Marocaine. The restaurant is renowned for its authentic Moroccan cuisine and luxurious setting, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The ambiance was enchanting, the decor exquisite, and the service impeccable. We opted for the tasting menu, a culinary journey through the flavors of Morocco. From the flavorful tagine to the heavenly pastilla, each dish was a masterpiece, a testament to the chef's skill and creativity. The atmosphere was magical, enhanced by the live music that filled the air. I am glad I dressed up for the occasion. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

As I reflect on today's experiences, I am struck by the diversity and richness of Marrakech. From the artistic wonders of Anima Garden to the serene beauty of Lalla Takerkoust, from the ethical dining at Henna Café to the luxurious flavors of La Grande Table Marocaine, each experience has added a new layer to my understanding and appreciation of this vibrant city. I am grateful for the opportunity to explore Marrakech with my friends, sharing laughter, insights, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Tomorrow, we plan to delve deeper into the heart of Marrakech, exploring the House of Photography, the Almoravid Koubba, and the Marrakech Museum. I am excited to uncover more of the city's hidden gems and immerse myself further in its rich culture and history. We will start our day with breakfast at Dar Justo, followed by lunch at Restaurant Le Grand Bazar Marrakech, and conclude the day with dinner at Dar Yacout. I'm also looking forward to visiting La Boutique Mamounia and Anika Lounge & Bar Marrakech.
I am also reminded of something I forgot to pack: an adapter for the Moroccan power outlets. It would have been useful for charging my camera and phone. I will make sure to buy one tomorrow, so that I don't have to rely on my friends' adapters.
Until tomorrow, dear readers, may your own travels be filled with wonder, discovery, and unforgettable experiences!
