Today in Fes was a journey through time and tradition. From the majestic gates of the Royal Palace to the serene walls of an ancient synagogue and the bustling energy of the Henna Souk, every corner of this city revealed a new layer of its rich history. My day began with a hearty breakfast at Cafe Clock. I opted for a traditional Moroccan breakfast, a delightful assortment of breads, cheeses, and olives, accompanied by a steaming glass of mint tea. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploration. I remember Hans once tried to replicate Moroccan mint tea back in Bamberg, but it never quite tasted the same. Perhaps it's the Moroccan mint, or maybe it's the atmosphere, but nothing beats enjoying it here.

First on my itinerary was the Royal Palace of Fez, or Dar al-Makhzen. Though non-Muslims aren't allowed inside, the exterior alone was worth the visit. The massive bronze doors, intricately decorated and gleaming in the morning sun, were a sight to behold. The palace dates back to the 13th century, serving as a royal residence and a symbol of Moroccan power. I learned that it spans 80 hectares and is still used by the King of Morocco when he's in Fes. The detailed craftsmanship and the sheer scale of the palace were truly impressive, a testament to the city's rich history and enduring royal traditions. I couldn't resist buying a small ceramic tagine, hand-painted with traditional Fassi designs, as a souvenir for my kitchen back in Bamberg.
