Saturday Adventures in the Blue Pearl
Today was all about soaking in the unique atmosphere of Chefchaouen. I woke up with a sense of excitement, ready to explore more of this blue-washed city with my friends. After a hearty breakfast, we set out to discover hidden gems and popular spots alike.
Our day began with a traditional Moroccan breakfast at Assaada. The cozy atmosphere and the aroma of mint tea were the perfect start to our explorations. I opted for a tagine, while the others tried the local crepes. It's amazing how such a simple meal can be so satisfying, especially when enjoyed in such a charming setting. The staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel right at home.

From there, we headed to Ras El Ma, a natural spring located just outside the medina. The walk itself was lovely, with glimpses of the Rif Mountains in the distance. As we approached the spring, the sound of rushing water grew louder, and the air felt cooler and fresher. It was fascinating to see locals washing clothes in the stream, a tradition that has been going on for generations. The cascades weren't exactly Niagara Falls, but the area had a serene, communal vibe that I really appreciated. I even dipped my toes in the water – bracingly cold, but invigorating!

The beauty of Chefchaouen lies not just in its blue walls, but in the vibrant life that unfolds within them.
Next on our list was Place El Haouta, a picturesque square in the heart of the medina. The square is surrounded by blue-tiled buildings with classic arches and iron grills. The name Hawta means surrounded or walled in, which perfectly describes the square. It's a bustling hub of activity, with locals and tourists mingling, vendors selling handicrafts, and cafes offering respite from the September sun. We spent some time wandering around, taking photos, and soaking in the atmosphere. I couldn't resist buying a small, hand-painted bowl as a souvenir. The square has a communal spirit, with a four-sided fountain providing drinking water. I found a bench to sit on and watched the world go by, completely captivated by the charm of the place.

Lunch was at Restaurant Al Wiam, located near Place Outa el Hamman. The restaurant is known for its authentic Moroccan dishes and stunning mountain views. I decided to try the tagine, and it was absolutely delicious – the perfect blend of spices and tender meat. My friends opted for couscous and flavorful salads. The warm and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant made our dining experience even better.

After lunch, we explored the shops in the medina. One that stood out was La Botica De La Abuela De Aladdin, a charming soap store with a delightful aroma. The store is filled with colorful, handmade soaps and essential oils. I picked up a few fragrance bars to take back to Berlin – Greta will love them! The owner was incredibly friendly and let us sample various products. It's these kinds of personal interactions that make traveling so rewarding.

As evening approached, we made our way to Sunset at Sunset, a bar known for its incredible views. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. The bar is open from 10 AM to 6:30 PM. Sipping on refreshing orange juice, we watched as the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange, pink, and purple. The blue buildings of Chefchaouen took on a magical glow, creating a scene that I'll never forget. It was a tranquil and serene experience, a perfect end to a busy day.

The service was excellent, and we enjoyed watching the activity in the square as we ate.
