A Day of Colors and Heights
Today was nothing short of spectacular! Leaving behind the familiar routines of Berlin, I embraced the raw beauty of the Peruvian Andes. With my friends by my side, I ventured into landscapes that painted a vivid picture of nature's artistry. From the towering Mano de Ausanagate to the kaleidoscopic Cordillera del Arcoiris Palccoyo, every moment felt like stepping into a living postcard.

Our day started with a hearty breakfast at Cuchara de Palo Restaurant. Located in Pisac within the Pisac Inn, this restaurant celebrates Peruvian cuisine with fresh, organic, and locally sourced ingredients. Opting for a traditional Andean breakfast, I savored every bite, knowing it would fuel our exploration ahead. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere, blending Andean aesthetics with artistic flair. It was the perfect way to start a day dedicated to discovering the region's natural wonders.

Fueled up and ready to go, we set off to discover the Mano de Ausanagate. The sheer scale of the mountain was humbling, and the crisp mountain air invigorated all of us. The Mano de Ausanagate, a towering peak, offered panoramic views that stretched as far as the eye could see. I felt a profound connection to the earth beneath my feet, a reminder of nature's enduring power. As we stood there, taking in the vista, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness such majesty. It was a moment that etched itself into my memory, a testament to the beauty that exists beyond the confines of city life.
Sometimes, the most breathtaking views come after the most challenging climbs.
Next on our itinerary was the Cordillera del Arcoiris Palccoyo, also known as Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain. Unlike the more crowded Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, Palccoyo offers a more serene and accessible experience. The hike to Palccoyo is relatively easy, making it suitable for all types of travelers. The mountain stands at 4,900 meters above sea level, a bit lower than Vinicunca, but no less stunning. As we ascended, the landscape transformed into a vibrant tapestry of colors. The unique mineral composition of the mountain creates a mesmerizing display of reds, yellows, greens, and blues. I paused to capture the beauty with my camera, trying to encapsulate the grandeur of the scene.
The altitude definitely presented a challenge. Even though I've been taking it easy in Cusco to acclimatize, the air was noticeably thinner. Remembering the portable phone charger I forgot to pack, I made a mental note to be more diligent with my packing list. Hydration was key, and I made sure to drink plenty of water. Coca tea, a local remedy, also helped ease the effects of the altitude.

For lunch, we stopped at Tres Keros, where we enjoyed a delightful meal. The restaurant is known for its innovative dishes and use of local ingredients. I savored the flavors of Peru, each dish a testament to the country's rich culinary heritage. The tiramisu de lima del huerto sounded delicious, but I opted for a lighter meal, knowing we had more exploring to do.

As the day drew to a close, we headed back to Cusco, but not before making a pit stop at Republica Del Pisco for dinner. This place is a must-visit for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the local culture. It is located a half block from the Plaza de Armas, offering a unique space that captures the essence of the magical city. The restaurant boasts a wide variety of pisco-based cocktails, snacks, and a la carte dishes. Plus, they have live music every night, which created a lively atmosphere for friends and families.

The vibrant music scene was the perfect way to unwind after a day of hiking and exploration. Sipping on a local beer, I reflected on the day's adventures. The Mano de Ausanagate and the Cordillera del Arcoiris Palccoyo had exceeded all expectations, leaving me in awe of Peru's natural beauty. Greta would have loved this. I made a mental note to bring her back here someday.
Tomorrow, we're off to explore the Sacred Valley and Saqsaywaman. I'm particularly excited about visiting the Mercado Central de San Pedro, where I hope to find some unique souvenirs. But for now, it's time to rest and recharge for another day of adventure. Good night from Cusco!
It's moments like these that remind me why I love to travel – the chance to witness nature's grandeur, immerse myself in different cultures, and create memories that will last a lifetime. And to think, this all started with a simple desire to escape the Berlin winter and explore the wonders of Peru.
