The warmth of the Senegalese people and the gentle rhythm of desert life have a way of making you feel instantly at peace.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at DÉMARRER LOMPOUL, a lodge that truly captures the essence of desert hospitality. The simple yet satisfying meal of fresh fruit, local bread, and strong coffee was the perfect start to a day of exploration. The family was still a little sleepy, but the excitement of the day ahead was palpable.

After breakfast, we decided to immerse ourselves in the local culture by visiting the Musée Jean Mermoz. Now, I know what you might be thinking: a museum in the middle of a desert trip? But this wasn't just any museum. It was a fascinating look into the history of aviation in Senegal and the legacy of Jean Mermoz, a pioneer aviator. The museum is in Saint-Louis, a city with a rich colonial history. Ebrima, who is usually glued to his phone, was surprisingly captivated by the old photographs and stories of daring pilots. It was a reminder that adventure comes in many forms, not just the thrill of the dunes.

Leaving the museum, we were ready to dive back into the heart of the Lompoul Desert. We had lunch at Horizons Lodges Lompoul, a charming spot that offered stunning views of the dunes. The food was delicious, a mix of traditional Senegalese dishes and familiar Western fare. Fatou particularly enjoyed the fresh fish, while Ebrima couldn't get enough of the spicy rice. I savored every bite, knowing that these moments of shared meals and laughter are what make our family trips so special.

With our bellies full and our spirits high, we embarked on the quintessential Lompoul experience: a camel ride through the dunes. This was something the kids had been looking forward to since we booked the trip. As we climbed onto the backs of these gentle giants, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. The evening wasn't over yet. We decided to end the day with a visit to Africa Roots, a local bar known for its lively atmosphere and traditional music. I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant at first. I'm not usually one for late-night revelry, but Fatou and Ebrima were eager to experience the local nightlife. And I have to say, I'm glad we went. The music was infectious, the people were friendly, and the atmosphere was electric. Even I couldn't resist tapping my feet to the rhythm of the drums.

As the night drew to a close, we made our way back to our desert camp, exhausted but exhilarated. Lying in our tent, under a blanket of stars, I reflected on the day. And most importantly, it was a day that brought my family closer together.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore more of what Lompoul has to offer. The itinerary includes visiting Africa Roots again, this time during the day, and checking out Rond point lompoul. I'm also intrigued by the prospect of visiting ibi ka, a local shop. I'm sure we'll find more hidden gems and create more lasting memories.

As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't help but smile. The Lompoul Desert had cast its spell on me, and I knew that this was a journey I would never forget. The warm days and cool nights here are a stark contrast to the weather back home in Germany during this time of year, but I wouldn't trade this experience for anything.

Tomorrow is our last full day in Lompoul, and I intend to make the most of it. I'm already looking forward to the adventures that await us. I wonder what surprises this magical desert has in store for us?
