Finding Paradise, One Grain of Sand at a Time

Today was about letting La Digue seep into our souls. After a week of go-go-go, Hans and I decided to fully embrace the island's laid-back rhythm. It's so important to just stop and take a breath, especially when you're surrounded by such incredible beauty. We had a few spots on the itinerary, but the real goal was simply to be present and soak it all in.

Our day started at Urban Tiffin by Le Relax for breakfast. It's funny, even though I now live in Germany, the flavors of my childhood always find a way back. The Creole spices woke up my senses, and the fresh fruit was like a burst of sunshine. Hans, ever the adventurous foodie, tried a bit of everything, declaring the fish curry his favorite. It reminded me of my grandmother's cooking – simple, honest, and full of love. I was so happy to see Hans enjoying the tastes of my home, a little piece of my heritage.

After breakfast, we decided to explore Apa Álom. It was a bit of a walk, but the scenery was worth every step. The path wound through lush greenery, with glimpses of the turquoise sea peeking through the trees. When we finally arrived, it felt like we had stumbled upon a secret paradise. The beach was small and secluded, with crystal-clear water lapping at the shore. It was exactly what we needed – a quiet place to relax and reconnect with nature. We spent hours swimming, sunbathing, and simply enjoying each other's company. Hans, always the shutterbug, was in his element, snapping photos of the vibrant coral reefs and colorful fish. I even managed to convince him to put down the camera for a few minutes and just be present in the moment.

Sometimes, the greatest adventures are the ones where you simply allow yourself to be still and appreciate the beauty that surrounds you.

Next on our list was Rocher coco fesse. I had heard so much about this unique rock formation, and I was eager to see it for myself. It's quite amusing how nature can mimic the human form, and this rock formation was certainly a conversation starter. We took some silly photos, of course, and then spent some time exploring the surrounding area. The views from the top of the rocks were absolutely breathtaking, with panoramic vistas of the coastline and the endless expanse of the Indian Ocean. It was a perfect reminder of the incredible natural beauty that La Digue has to offer.

Lunch was at L'Escale Lounge & Restaurant. The restaurant offered a delightful fusion of international cuisine with Creole influences, and the setting was simply stunning. We enjoyed fresh seafood while overlooking the marina and the sparkling pool. The gentle sea breeze and the warm tropical sun made it a truly unforgettable dining experience. Hans was particularly impressed with the Creole touch in every dish. It was a perfect blend of familiar and exotic, a testament to the island's rich cultural heritage.

In the afternoon, we decided to do a little shopping at La Palme D'Or. I wanted to find a special souvenir to remind me of our trip, and Hans was on the hunt for a new beach hat. The shop was filled with local crafts, vibrant artwork, and unique mementos. I finally settled on a beautiful hand-painted silk scarf, and Hans found the perfect hat to shield him from the sun. It's always nice to support local artisans and take home a little piece of the island's culture.

Dinner was at Spice, a restaurant known for its Western cuisine. While I do love Creole food, sometimes you just crave something familiar. Spice offered a comforting taste of home, with dishes that reminded me of our life in Germany. Hans ordered a schnitzel, while I opted for a classic pasta dish. It was a simple but satisfying meal, and the cozy atmosphere made it even more enjoyable. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home.

As the sun began to set, we found ourselves back on the beach, watching the sky transform into a canvas of vibrant colors. The air was warm and balmy, and the sound of the waves was incredibly soothing. We sat in silence for a few minutes, simply appreciating the moment and each other's company. It was a perfect end to a perfect day, a reminder of the simple joys in life.

Tomorrow, we are planning to explore Round Island and Sainte Anne Island. I've heard that the snorkeling there is incredible, and I'm excited to discover more of the Seychelles' underwater wonders. But for now, I'm content to simply relax and soak in the magic of La Digue. It's a place that truly captures the heart and soul, a place where time seems to slow down and the worries of the world fade away. I'm so grateful to be able to share this experience with Hans, to reconnect with my roots, and to create memories that will last a lifetime.

As I reflect on the day, I realize that it's not just about the places we visited or the things we did. It's about the feeling of being present, of truly connecting with the people and the environment around us. It's about slowing down and appreciating the simple joys in life, like a warm breeze, a stunning sunset, or a delicious meal shared with loved ones. These are the moments that make travel so special, the moments that stay with you long after you've returned home. And it's these moments that I hope to capture and share with you, my dear readers, so that you too can experience the magic of La Digue, even from afar.

And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to dream of turquoise waters and swaying palm trees. Until tomorrow, friends! À bientôt!
