Sunday Bliss: Exploring La Digue's Charms
Today was a symphony of sun, sea, and Seychellois spirit. I woke up with a sense of anticipation, eager to immerse myself and Hans in the beauty that La Digue had to offer. It was a day of exploration and relaxation, perfectly balancing adventure with moments of peaceful reflection. These moments are what I cherish most, creating memories that I know will last a lifetime.
Our day began in Anse Volbert Village, a charming coastal haven on Praslin Island. Although technically a short boat ride away from La Digue, it was well worth the visit. The beach, also known as Côte d'Or, was bustling with activity, families playing in the gentle surf, and the vibrant colors of beach umbrellas dotting the shoreline. It reminded me of the lively atmosphere of Beau Vallon back on Mahé, but with a more intimate, community feel. We strolled along the beach, enjoying the warm sun and the refreshing sea breeze, before deciding to embark on our next adventure: Cocos Island.

Cocos Island, a jewel of the Seychelles, beckoned with promises of underwater wonders. Just a short boat trip from Anse Volbert, the anticipation grew as we approached this tiny island paradise. The water surrounding Cocos Island was unbelievably clear, a shimmering turquoise that hinted at the vibrant marine life beneath the surface. As someone who has always been fascinated by marine biology, I was beyond excited to explore this underwater haven with Hans.

We donned our snorkeling gear and plunged into the inviting waters. Immediately, we were greeted by a kaleidoscope of colors and life. Schools of vibrant fish darted around us, their scales shimmering in the sunlight. Sea turtles glided gracefully through the water, seemingly unperturbed by our presence. The coral reefs were teeming with life, a testament to the Seychelles' commitment to marine conservation. It was like swimming in an aquarium, an experience that left us both breathless and in awe.
The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.
After our snorkeling adventure, we returned to La Digue with appetites as big as the ocean we had just explored. Our first stop was Restaurant Créole for breakfast. I wanted Hans to experience the authentic flavors of my home. The restaurant was cozy and inviting, the aroma of Creole spices filling the air. We savored a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, grilled fish, and spicy Creole sausages, fueling up for the rest of our day.

For lunch, we ventured to Auberge Chez Plume, a name that resonated with me from my childhood. While the Auberge Chez Plume I remembered was on Mahé, this La Digue establishment carried the same spirit of Creole hospitality and culinary excellence. The setting was idyllic, a charming restaurant nestled amidst lush tropical gardens. Hans and I indulged in a feast of fresh seafood, prepared with a delicate blend of Creole and international flavors. I opted for the grilled lobster, while Hans savored the red snapper. Every bite was a taste of paradise, a reminder of the rich culinary heritage of the Seychelles.

As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, we found ourselves drawn to the lively atmosphere of Sunrise Beach Bar/Grill. Located right on the beach, the bar offered stunning views of the ocean, the sky ablaze with vibrant hues of orange and pink. The air was filled with the sounds of laughter and music, a perfect blend of relaxation and celebration. We sipped on refreshing cocktails, watching the sunset paint the sky with its magical colors.

Our final stop for the evening was the legendary Robinson Crusoe Bar. I'd heard so much about this place, a hidden gem known for its laid-back vibe and tropical charm. As we stepped inside, we were immediately enveloped in a sense of island tranquility. The bar was decorated with rustic wooden furniture, lush greenery, and twinkling lights, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. We ordered a couple of their signature cocktails, crafted with fresh, local ingredients, and settled in to enjoy the evening.

The Robinson Crusoe Bar was more than just a place to grab a drink; it was a gathering place, a hub of community and camaraderie. We met fellow travelers from all over the world, sharing stories and laughter. The friendly staff made us feel like family, sharing their own tales of island life. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day, a reminder of the warmth and hospitality that the Seychelles are known for.
Reflecting on the day, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to share my heritage with Hans. To see him experience the beauty and warmth of La Digue, to taste the flavors of my childhood, filled my heart with joy. It was a day of connection, not just with each other, but with the island itself, with the spirit of the Seychelles that runs deep within my soul.
As I prepare for tomorrow, I'm excited to explore more of La Digue's hidden gems. Our itinerary includes a visit to Apa Álom and Rocher coco fesse, two attractions I've heard so much about. I'm also looking forward to trying new restaurants like Urban Tiffin by Le Relax, L'Escale Lounge & Restaurant, and Spice. And of course, I can't resist a bit of shopping at La Palme D'Or. Each day here is a new adventure, a new opportunity to create memories that will last a lifetime. Until tomorrow, au revoir from La Digue!

A visit to La Palme D'Or is also on the cards, because what is a vacation without a little shopping?

It is time to rest now. Until tomorrow!
