Saturday in the Blue Pearl

Today was all about embracing the vibrant culture and stunning scenery of Chefchaouen. From exploring historical landmarks to savoring local cuisine and enjoying a mesmerizing sunset, it was a day filled with unforgettable experiences. I am so excited to share all about it with you!

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at MIDO'S. Aisha was particularly excited, as she had heard they had amazing milkshakes. Hans opted for a traditional Moroccan coffee, while I decided on a refreshing juice. It was the perfect way to fuel up for our adventures. The friendly staff and lively atmosphere made it a great start to the day.

After breakfast, we decided to visit the Chefchaouen Gate. As we approached, the gate stood majestically, a beautiful blend of history and architecture. The intricate designs and robust structure were a sight to behold, offering a glimpse into the city's rich past. I couldn’t help but imagine the countless stories this gate could tell.

Next on our list was Casa Familia, a place recommended by several fellow travelers. The reviews I had read online raved about its beautiful Moroccan style and stunning mountain views. As we arrived, we were greeted by the tranquil ambiance and the warm hospitality of the staff. The architecture was indeed stunning, with intricate details that showcased the rich Moroccan heritage. We took a leisurely stroll around the premises, soaking in the breathtaking views of the Rif Mountains. Aisha was particularly fascinated by the small details in the architecture, pointing out the unique patterns and designs. I managed to snap some photos, hoping to capture the serene beauty of the place.

For lunch, we ventured to Sandwich Chez Aziz, a spot known for its delicious and affordable sandwiches. I decided to try their signature shawarma, while Hans opted for a classic Moroccan sandwich. Aisha, ever adventurous, went for a pizza. The shawarma was indeed a burst of flavors, with perfectly seasoned meat and fresh vegetables. Hans enjoyed his sandwich, commenting on the authentic Moroccan spices used. Aisha devoured her pizza, proclaiming it the best she had had in Morocco. The casual and welcoming atmosphere of Chez Aziz made it a perfect spot for a quick and satisfying lunch.

Travel is about the gorgeous feeling of teetering in the unknown.

In the late afternoon, with the sun beginning its descent, we made our way to Sunset at sunset, a bar I had read about that promised mesmerizing views. As we settled in, the ambiance was indeed magical. The sky was awash with hues of orange and pink, casting a warm glow over the blue city. We ordered some refreshing drinks – a traditional Moroccan tea for me, a local beer for Hans, and a sparkling juice for Aisha. As we sipped our drinks, we watched the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky with strokes of vibrant colors. It was a moment of pure bliss, a perfect way to end a day of exploration and adventure.

For dinner, we chose Restaurant Ali Baba, known for its vegetarian options. As a cultural liaison, I always appreciate restaurants that cater to different dietary needs and preferences. We started with a mezze plate, which was a delightful assortment of Moroccan salads and dips. For the main course, I ordered the vegetable tagine, while Hans went for the chicken couscous. Aisha, still riding high from her lunchtime pizza, opted for a simple salad. The vegetable tagine was a flavorful and aromatic dish, with perfectly cooked vegetables and a rich blend of spices. Hans enjoyed his chicken couscous, praising the tender chicken and the fluffy couscous. The warm and inviting atmosphere of Restaurant Ali Baba made it a perfect spot for a family dinner.

As the day drew to a close, I reflected on all the incredible experiences we had. From exploring historical landmarks to savoring local cuisine and enjoying a mesmerizing sunset, it was a day filled with unforgettable moments. I am grateful for the opportunity to share these experiences with my family and to immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture of Chefchaouen. I am already looking forward to tomorrow, where we plan to visit Bab El Ain and Bab Chaouen, and perhaps do some shopping for copper and lamps.

Before heading back to Hotel Dar Mounir, we strolled through the quiet, blue-washed streets, the cool night air a welcome contrast to the day's heat. The city took on an entirely different charm under the moonlight, peaceful and serene. It was a perfect end to a perfect day.

One thing I have to mention is that I completely forgot my sunglasses back in Bamberg, which is proving to be quite annoying in the bright Moroccan sun. I also wish I had brought a travel adapter, as charging my devices has been a bit of a hassle. But these are minor inconveniences compared to the incredible experiences we are having. Aisha keeps reminding me that forgetting things is just part of the adventure, and she's probably right.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore more of Chefchaouen's hidden gems. Bab El Ain and Bab Chaouen are on the list, and Aisha is particularly excited about the Chefchaouen copper and lamps shop. I'm hoping to find a beautiful lamp to bring back home as a souvenir. Until then, good night from the Blue Pearl of Morocco! I hope you enjoyed hearing about my day today! It is now time for me to get some much needed sleep.

As I drift off to sleep, I can't help but feel grateful for these moments. Traveling with my family is not always easy, but it's always worth it. The memories we are creating here in Chefchaouen will be cherished for a lifetime. And who knows what adventures tomorrow will bring? I can't wait to find out!

I’m always amazed at how travel brings us closer, not just to new places, but to each other. The shared experiences, the laughter, and even the occasional mishaps, all weave together to create a tapestry of memories that bind us together.

And as I close my eyes, I can still see the vibrant colors of the sunset, taste the delicious flavors of Moroccan cuisine, and feel the warmth of the Moroccan hospitality. Chefchaouen, you have truly captured my heart.

And that’s a wrap for today, friends! I hope you enjoyed tagging along on our Chefchaouen adventure. Stay tuned for more tales from the Blue Pearl tomorrow. Until then, happy travels!
