Finding the Heart of Chefchaouen
Today was all about soaking in the authentic atmosphere of Chefchaouen. After nine days of exploring this blue pearl, I felt like I was finally finding its hidden heart. It wasn't just about seeing the sights, but truly experiencing the local culture, savoring the flavors, and connecting with the people. I was excited to see what new adventures the day would bring, especially with my friends by my side.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Le Coin. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the promise of traditional Moroccan treats drew us in. It was a cozy spot , and Fatima and I found a quiet corner where we could plan our day. I opted for the local breakfast, which included warm bread, olives, and a spicy harissa that woke up my senses. Omar, of course, went straight for the pastries, his face lighting up with every bite. Fatima enjoyed a simple croissant with her coffee, savoring the moment before our explorations began. It was the perfect start to a day filled with discovery.

After breakfast, we made our way to Casa Familia, a place that felt like a home away from home. Although we weren't staying there, I wanted to see it for myself after reading so many positive reviews. The walk was pleasant, giving us a different perspective on the town, away from the bustling Medina. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and the Moroccan-style décor was beautiful. I could see why so many travelers raved about their experience there. It was a tranquil spot, and I made a mental note to consider it for our next visit to Chefchaouen.

Next on our list was Place El Haouta, a picturesque square that seemed to pulse with the life of Chefchaouen. As we approached, the vibrant atmosphere enveloped us. Street vendors were setting up their stalls, the air was filled with the aroma of spices, and the sounds of laughter and chatter echoed through the square. The blue-tiled buildings with their classic arches and iron grills created a stunning backdrop. We spent a good hour simply wandering around, taking photos, and soaking in the ambiance.

I couldn't resist trying some local street food. I opted for a grilled kebab, while Fatima chose a traditional Moroccan pastry. Omar, ever adventurous, tried a bit of everything. As we ate, we watched locals gather to socialize, play music, and simply enjoy each other's company. It was a beautiful scene, and I felt grateful to be a part of it.
For lunch, we ventured to Tissemlal, a restaurant recommended for its authentic Moroccan cuisine. The setting was charming, with a cozy downstairs area and a terrace offering stunning views. We chose the terrace, wanting to soak in the beauty of Chefchaouen while we ate. The menu was filled with traditional dishes, and we decided to try a bit of everything. I ordered the lamb tagine, Fatima chose the couscous, and Omar, surprisingly, opted for the beef skewers. Each dish was bursting with flavor, and the spices transported me to the heart of Morocco. The lamb was tender and succulent, the couscous was light and fluffy, and even Omar admitted that the beef skewers were the best he'd ever tasted. It was a truly memorable meal, and I knew we'd be talking about it for years to come.

After lunch, it was time for some shopping. We headed to La Botica De La Abuela De Aladdin, a charming soap store that I had read about. The moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by a sweet aroma that filled the air. Soaps of all shapes, sizes, and scents lined the walls, and woven baskets added a touch of color. The owner was incredibly friendly, offering us samples and answering our questions. I was tempted to buy everything, but I settled on a few fragrance bars to put in my luggage. Fatima chose some argan oil for her skin, and Omar, of course, picked out a colorful bath bomb. It was a delightful little shop, and I was glad we had stumbled upon it.

As the afternoon wore on, we decided to take a break and simply wander through the blue-washed streets of the Medina. We got lost in the labyrinthine alleys, admiring the architecture and soaking in the atmosphere. Every corner revealed a new photo opportunity, and I snapped away, trying to capture the essence of Chefchaouen. We stumbled upon hidden courtyards, vibrant doorways, and friendly locals who greeted us with warm smiles. It was moments like these that made the trip so special.
Before dinner, we returned to Place El Haouta to see it in a different light. As the sun began to set, the square transformed into a magical place. The blue hues of the buildings deepened, and the warm light cast long shadows. The atmosphere was even more vibrant than before, with street performers entertaining the crowds and locals gathering to chat and play games. We found a spot on a bench and simply watched the world go by. It was a perfect moment of peace and contentment.
For our final dinner in Chefchaouen, we chose Bar Oum Rabie, a place known for its grilled cuisine and unique atmosphere. I had heard it was the only place in town serving beer and wine, which was a nice change of pace. The restaurant was lively, with warm colors and local décor. The menu featured a variety of grilled meats and fresh ingredients. I ordered the mixed grill platter, while Fatima chose the vegetable skewers. Omar, craving something familiar, opted for the grilled chicken. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect. We enjoyed our meal, sipping on local wine and reminiscing about our adventures in Chefchaouen. It was the perfect way to end our day.

As we walked back to our riad, I couldn't help but feel a sense of melancholy. Tomorrow was our last day in Chefchaouen, and I wasn't ready to leave. This blue pearl had captured my heart, and I knew I would be back someday. But I was also excited for our final day of exploration. We planned to revisit Chefchaouen itself, explore the Cave Acher, and enjoy one last taste of Moroccan cuisine at Toda Creperie & Ice Cream, Restaurant Bar Chaouen and Restaurant Morisco. And perhaps, we'd end the day with a drink at lyajor tiskit, savoring the last moments of our Moroccan adventure.
