Finding Peace and Energy in Chefchaouen

Today in Chefchaouen was a beautiful blend of peaceful reflection and vibrant exploration. It's amazing how this blue city continues to surprise me with its hidden corners and lively streets. I'm so glad I decided to take this trip with my friends; their laughter and companionship make every moment even more special.

Our day began, as most days do, with a delightful breakfast at Restaurant Chourafa. The aroma of freshly baked bread and the rich, spiced coffee filled the air, setting the perfect tone for the adventures ahead. I opted for the traditional Moroccan pancakes, drizzled with honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon. It’s funny; I never used to be a big breakfast person back in Berlin, but here, I find myself eagerly anticipating the morning meal.

After breakfast, we decided to take a leisurely walk to Park Sidi Abdelhamid. The park is a little oasis of green, offering stunning views of the blue-washed city nestled against the Rif Mountains. The air was crisp and clean, a welcome change from the bustling streets. We found a quiet bench under the shade of an olive tree and simply sat there, soaking in the tranquility. It was a moment of pure serenity, a chance to disconnect from the world and appreciate the simple beauty of nature.

The beauty of Chefchaouen lies not just in its blue walls, but in the serene moments of reflection it inspires.

As we strolled through the park, I couldn't help but think about my life back in Berlin. Nursing can be incredibly demanding, and sometimes I feel like I'm constantly running on empty. But here, surrounded by the calming blue hues and the gentle rhythm of Moroccan life, I feel rejuvenated. This trip is exactly what I needed to recharge and reconnect with myself. I even managed to jot down some thoughts in my travel journal, finally putting it to use after forgetting it at home. I really wish I hadn't forgotten my sunglasses, though; the Moroccan sun is quite intense, even in March.

Next on our agenda was Boulevard Mohamed V, the main thoroughfare of Chefchaouen. What a contrast to the peaceful park! The boulevard was alive with activity – locals going about their daily routines, tourists snapping photos, and vendors selling everything from colorful textiles to aromatic spices. We joined the throng, weaving our way through the crowds, taking in the sights and sounds.

We stopped at a small shop selling traditional Moroccan slippers, and my friend, Sarah, insisted on buying a pair for her mother. She has such a big heart, always thinking of others. I, on the other hand, was captivated by the intricate designs of the hand-painted ceramics. I ended up buying a small tagine as a souvenir. I can't wait to try making some traditional Moroccan dishes when I get back to Berlin, though I doubt it will taste quite the same without the Moroccan atmosphere.

For lunch, we ventured to Restaurant Dar El Salam, a cozy spot recommended by one of the locals. The restaurant was tucked away in a quiet alley, and we were immediately charmed by its rustic decor and warm ambiance. We ordered a selection of Moroccan salads and a tagine with chicken and preserved lemons. The food was absolutely delicious – fresh, flavorful, and cooked with love. It was one of those meals that you savor, each bite a little taste of Morocco.

In the late afternoon, we decided to experience Chefchaouen's cafe culture at Cafe Clock. The cafe had a laid-back vibe, with locals and tourists alike lounging on comfortable cushions, sipping mint tea, and chatting. We ordered a round of mint tea and settled in, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. The mint tea was sweet and refreshing, the perfect pick-me-up after a day of exploring.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the blue city, we made our way to RESTAURANT CASA ANDALUZ for dinner. The restaurant is known for its traditional Andalusian cuisine, and we were eager to try it. We ordered a paella, and it was incredible. The flavors were rich and complex, a testament to the chef's skill.

During dinner, Hans sent me a message. He was asking about my day and said he missed me, which was incredibly sweet. It’s moments like these that make me realize how lucky I am to have such a supportive husband. I told him all about our adventures, describing the vibrant colors, the fragrant spices, and the warm hospitality of the Moroccan people. He said he wished he could be here with me, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of longing. But I know he's happy for me, and that's all that matters.

After dinner, we took a final stroll through the medina, soaking in the magical atmosphere of Chefchaouen at night. The blue walls seemed to glow under the moonlight, creating a surreal and enchanting scene. I felt a sense of gratitude for this incredible experience, for the chance to explore a new culture, and for the friendships that have made this journey so special.

Tomorrow, we plan to venture beyond Chefchaouen and explore Tetouan. We're planning to visit Tetouan's old Medina map and the Tetuan Modern Art Center. We've also got reservations for meals at Café & restaurant Meftah, Mandala, and Restaurant Terrasse Djebli. Sarah is particularly excited about visiting the Hibart Souvenirs Shop. I'm looking forward to discovering what treasures Tetouan holds, but I know that a part of me will always remain in the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen. I really should remember to buy some sunglasses before we leave tomorrow!

As I sit here now, writing in my journal, I can't help but smile. Today was a perfect day, a reminder of the beauty and wonder that exists in the world. And as I drift off to sleep, I know that tomorrow will bring new adventures, new discoveries, and new memories to cherish.
