A Day of Twists and Turns

Today was all about embracing the dramatic landscapes that the Dades Valley is so famous for. I set out early, eager to explore the winding roads and ancient gorges that define this part of Morocco. It's a landscape that feels both ancient and alive, with every turn revealing a new vista of raw, natural beauty.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at CAFE RESTAURANT ROOFTOP ATLAS DADES. The rooftop setting offered stunning views of the Atlas Mountains, the perfect backdrop for planning my day's adventure. I enjoyed some traditional Moroccan fare – a flavorful tagine and mint tea – while soaking in the crisp morning air. The staff were incredibly welcoming, sharing local tips and stories that added a personal touch to the experience. It's moments like these that remind me why I love solo travel; the freedom to connect with people and places on a deeper level.

Fueled and ready, I headed towards the famed Tisderine bends. The drive itself was an experience, the road snaking its way through the valley, revealing panoramic views at every turn. As I approached the bends, the landscape transformed into a series of dramatic hairpin turns clinging to the mountainside. I parked the car and took a moment to simply absorb the view. The valley stretched out before me, a tapestry of red rock formations and lush green oases. It was a photographer's dream, and I spent a good hour capturing the scene from every possible angle.

The beauty of the Dades Valley lies not just in its landscapes, but in the way it connects you to the earth.

After the breathtaking views at the Tisderine bends, I continued my journey towards the Gorges Dadés. The road wound deeper into the valley, the canyon walls growing taller and more imposing with each kilometer. The geological formations were incredible, layers of sedimentary rock telling a story of millions of years of history. I stopped at several viewpoints along the way, each offering a unique perspective on the gorge. The sheer scale of the place was humbling, a reminder of the power of nature and the passage of time.

Lunch was a delightful affair at La famille kasbah. This charming restaurant offered a warm and inviting atmosphere, with traditional Berber décor and friendly staff. I indulged in a delicious meal of local specialties, savoring the flavors of the region. The kasbah itself was a beautiful example of traditional architecture, blending seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. It felt like stepping back in time, a welcome escape from the modern world.

As the afternoon wore on, I decided to take a break from driving and explore the Gorges Dadés on foot. I found a hiking trail that led along the riverbed, allowing me to get up close and personal with the towering canyon walls. The sound of the river was soothing, and the air was filled with the scent of wildflowers. I hiked for a couple of hours, marveling at the unique rock formations and the vibrant colors of the landscape. It was a truly immersive experience, a chance to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the Dades Valley.

In the late afternoon, I made my way to Ayour cafe restaurant for a refreshing drink. The café had a relaxed and welcoming vibe, and I enjoyed chatting with some of the locals while sipping on a mint tea. It was a great way to unwind after a day of exploring, and I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the Berber culture and way of life.

As the sun began to set, I headed to Isabel - Chez Moha for dinner. This restaurant is known for its exquisite Moroccan cuisine and breathtaking views, and it certainly didn't disappoint. I enjoyed a delicious tagine while watching the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in a riot of colors. The atmosphere was magical, and the food was simply divine. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

Tomorrow, I plan to visit Citadelle Dades and Kefroun (turtle's back). I'm looking forward to discovering more hidden gems in this fascinating region. The Dades Valley has a way of captivating you, drawing you in with its stunning landscapes and rich culture. It's a place that stays with you long after you've left, a reminder of the beauty and wonder that exists in the world.

Back at my guesthouse, reflecting on the day, I realized how much this landscape resonates with my own passion for urban beekeeping back in Hamburg. Just as bees transform urban environments, the Dades River has sculpted this valley over millennia, creating a unique and thriving ecosystem. It's a powerful reminder that nature always finds a way, even in the most challenging environments.

Before drifting off to sleep, I made sure to charge my camera, a mistake I won't repeat from the beginning of the trip. Tomorrow, I'm determined to capture even more of the Dades Valley's beauty.

Looking ahead, I'm excited about the prospect of visiting the Citadelle Dades and Kefroun (turtle's back) tomorrow. Each day here brings new discoveries, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow holds.
