Discover more about Times Building

Located at the intersection of Holmes Avenue and Greene Street, the Times Building is a distinguished example of Art Deco architecture in Huntsville. Built in 1928, the 12-story skyscraper was originally the headquarters for The Huntsville Times newspaper for nearly three decades. Its construction marked a pivotal moment in Huntsville's history, reflecting the city's shift from an agricultural town to a burgeoning center of aerospace and technology. The building's design, crafted by the R.H. Hunt Company of Chattanooga, showcases a blend of brick, stone, and glazed architectural terra cotta. The facade features geometric shapes and classical motifs, including eagles sculpted from terra cotta that frame the arched entrances. An interesting anecdote involves the addition of the twelfth floor, added after the Russel Erskine Hotel announced it would also have twelve stories. The elevators, however, do not reach the top floor because of the added floor. From the 1970s until the late 1980s, the Times Building housed public radio stations WLRH and WAHR. In 1980, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, solidifying its status as a historical and architectural landmark. Today, the Times Building primarily serves as office space, housing a variety of businesses and organizations.
